The materials that come from a rock quarry are in your everyday life; you just may not realize it.  Bath stone, construction aggregate, dimension stone, gravel, riprap, rock, sand, and slate are all excavated from the ground in what is called a rock quarry. Some areas are referred to as an open-pit mine, whereas a coal mine is an enclosed excavation.

There are many types of rock that are extracted from a rock quarry, some of which include:

  • Chalk
  • China Clay
  • Cinder
  • Clay
  • Granite
  • Gypsum
  • Limestone
  • Marble
  • Sandstone

Materials such as granite, limestone, marble, and sandstone are dug out in large slabs and then removed from the quarry. Then the surfaces are polished to bring out the natural look, which can vary depending on the part of the country being excavated.

Those slabs are then finished off with a luster or sheen of different degrees and then they may be cut into countertops or tiles. So the counter where you fix your meals or the bath where you take your shower could have materials that came from under the Earth’s surface. The natural stone that is quarried from the Earth is an upgraded luxury and is very durable.
